Weininger says his bill, known as the Get Youth Moving act, or GYM bill, is based on national recommendations from the Institutes of Medicine. He contends the bill would not only benefit student health, but a few less minutes in the classroom would also help their grades. “Studies have shown if you just visit the site cut a few minutes out of the regular session and you introduce physical education, it actually increases their test performance,” says Weininger. The American Cancer Society and Wisconsin Parent Teacher Association max workout both back the bill. “Two thirds of all cancer deaths in the review U.S. are now attributable to poor diet and inactivity as well as overweight and obesity,” says Allison Miller of the American Cancer Society.
